The Glorious Ministry
(2Co 3:1-18)
God is the Lord of glory.
He reveals Himself as glory and
He rewards with glory.
Faith is knowing Him, and
The life of this faith is knowing His work as the glorious ministry and doing it.
A letter has a glorious ministry,
Depending on the status of its sender and its content.
Once delivered, its glory can be seen.
Once called by God, Moses was sent to Egypt and
Spoke as God instructed him (Ex 3:10, Ex 4:15-17).
Thus, he tasted the glory of watching the pharaoh falling on his knees (Ex 12:31-33).
Furthermore, Moses was called up to the mountaintop where
The glory of the Lord looked like a consuming fire, and
Stayed there for 40 days and 40 nights without eating or drinking (Ex 24:14-18).
Finally, when he came down with two stone tablets,
His face was radiant and the Israelites were afraid to look at him (Ex 31:18, Ex 32:19, Ex 34:1, Ex 34:29-35).
The work of delivering the engraved letters on the stones, however, was not glorious,
But rather it was a ministry that brought death (2Co 3:7),
Engraved with an iron tool, the written code that condemns (Jer 17:1).
Yet the sanctuary where the stone tablets were placed,
Reminded the Israelites the glory of the Lord God in their midst.
Jesus said, "Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days (Jn 2:19), because
Through the death and the resurrection of the temple of His body,
He would bring glory to the Father (Jn 17:4) for
He is the incarnate Word, the glory of the one and only Son (Jn 1:1, Jn 1:14).
As He died, Jesus said, "It is finished (Jn 19:30), declaring that He:
1. Lowered Himself and revealed that the Father alone is the Lord of glory (Php 2:8-11);
2. Condemned Satan who challenged His glory (Is 14:14-15); and
3. With His blood that was poured out from His torn flesh revealed the Father's will to raise men to life, and fulfilled the glorious ministry (Jer 17:1; 2Co 3:8-11).
The Father raised Him and also brought Him glory (Jn 17:4) and
Jesus sat on the throne in heaven to receive glory forever.
The Holy Spirit came to those who believe in His name and
Gives them a glorious ministry as letters of Christ,
Written in their souls with His blood (Ac 1:8; 2Co 3:1-6).
Therefore, a letter must:
1. Be delivered according to what is written;
2. Be delivered swiftly and
3. Participate in the joy and the eternal glory of what is delivered.
O Lord,
What are we that You are mindful of us?
You not only raised us to life but also lead us to see Your glory!
Let us all deliver what we have heard and do it swiftly.
Let us be torn of our pride and confidence and be opened so that
Your glory alone may be revealed!
Amen.
